While in Haiti, we were privileged to meet with iron artisan, Celestin. Celestin is one of the artisans of the Village Artistique des Noialles. We chatted a little bit about his love for ironwork and the challenges that he faces as an Artisan. During our chat he shared that his biggest challenge lies in the availability of the supplies, and income security. Celestin shared that although sales are not steady, he enjoys working with new designs and finding innovative ways to use iron. What’s more commendable about Celestin is the work he is doing with youth in his area by teaching them to skill of ironwork in hopes that this skill stir them away from a destructive lifestyle.
We encourage you to buy Haiti and support artisans like Celestin because when you do, you contribute to the sustainable development of Haiti.
